Please observe the following notices to ensure successful planting:

  • Remove all transport packaging immediately upon receipt and check that the goods are intact. Notify us of any complaints on the same day.
  • The seeds can be stored for up to 6 months, provided the storage room is dry, cool and dark (e.g. refrigerator or cold room). The germinability may change (slightly) during storage.
  • Wear gloves during use and do not inhale dust.
  • Amount to be applied generally 25 g/m². In combination with planting or sprout seeding, the application rate is reduced accordingly. For exposed Areas or sloping roofs, the application rate must be increased.
  • Ideal application temperature of 5 to 18 °C on non-frozen System Substrate / Substrate Soil / Growing Medium, preferably before an expected period of rain (no heavy rain!). At higher temperatures or/and wind, the water requirement for establishment increases and germination may be inhibited; lower temperatures delay development, but are not disadvantageous. Germinating seeds and young plants, on the other hand, must not be allowed to dry out.
  • Seed sowing is generally carried out on the System Substrate "Rockery Type Plants" at a substrate height of at least 70 mm.
  • Depending on the annual precipitation, the following minimum heights should be provided as a rule of thumb

    Annual precipitation
    System Substrate height
    < 800 mm≥ 90 mm
    < 700 mm≥ 100 mm
    < 600 mm≥ 100 to 150 mm

    and always require supplementary irrigation.
If all types of seed mixtures are to be permanently established, then 100 to 150 mm is required, ideally at varying heights and combined with an automated irrigation solution.
  • Mix the seed before sowing to eliminate segregation caused by transportation.
  • Level the substrate surface and create a seedbed before sowing.
  • If the System Substrate / Substrate Soil / Growing Medium has been lying on the roof surface for a longitudinal period without sowing, it must be worked through and leveled again to create a fine seedbed. Any foreign growth must be removed.
  • The System Substrate / Substrate Soil / Growing Medium should settle for approx. one week before seeding. If this is not possible, roll before seed sowing.
  • Sowing can take place in spring (April to June) and preferably in fall (September and October), but is possible all year round if the System Substrate / Substrate Soil / Growing Medium is frost-free. Spring and especially summer sowings have a high to very high watering requirement.
  • For wet sowing, add water, seed, additional pressure-sensitive adhesive if necessary and mulch to the Hydroseeder in this order, mix for 10 minutes and spray evenly onto the substrate surface.
  • For dry seeding, the seed is mixed in portions with slightly moist sand (locally available sand or bagged material with the seed mixture and applied immediately afterwards. For example, 10 liters of moistened sand are mixed with 500 g of seed mixture and then sown on partial areas of 20 m² each, previously marked with sand lines. It is best to sow twice in a criss-cross pattern. Any additional sedum sprouts used are sown separately.
  • The System Substrate / Substrate / Growing Medium must be moist before dry seeding - water beforehand if necessary. The bonding process starts immediately after sowing. The Area must not be walked on until the vegetation has taken over to prevent erosion; otherwise the adhesive effect will be destroyed.
  • After sowing, the Area must be thoroughly watered from above. This brings the seeds into the correct position and improves the adhesive effect. Irrigation must be maintained depending on the weather. Drying out the seedlings and young plants will quickly lead to their loss!
  • It is important to achieve a so-called seed bank on the roof. To achieve this, the plant species must reach flowering and seed maturity. This allows them to survive very dry phases as seeds and thus regenerate. However, it must not come to a total drought every year. Otherwise the seed bank will be depleted and may need to be replenished by reseeding.
  • It is strongly recommended that an irrigation solution with an irrigation controller is installed to provide the necessary moisture during establishment (depending on the weather, water several times a day!) and also to allow for later emergency watering during lengthy dry spells.
  • Depending on local conditions, vegetation typical of the site will only develop within approx. 3 years, although the species composition may vary. There are also frost germinators, which only germinate after a corresponding cold phase.
  • Mowing is required annually as a cleaning cut or, depending on the visual requirements, more often or, after a very rainy phase, additionally to allow light to reach germinating and weaker plants. Clippings must be removed from the Area. Raking the substrate surface more vigorously in some areas (coarse raking) promotes species diversity (simulating grazing).
  • It may be necessary to roll the greening area after the winter in order to achieve a good soil seal and allow frozen young plants to continue growing.
  • Depending on local conditions, a coated slow release fertilizer with a balanced nutrient composition and an effective duration of 4-6 months (5 g N/m²/year) is required as part of the completion, development and maintenance care. Zinco-Plantfit 4 M is recommended in accordance with the dosing instructions.
